Sip Coffeebar's Story

Best friends Rachel and Gretchen opened SiP Coffeebar in 2004, eager to share a love of cooking, baking, and coffee with our favorite Minneapolis neighborhood. From the beginning, our goal has been to provide Northeast with a friendly gathering space that serves delicious, satisfying, fast, and affordable food and coffee. To fill the giant gap left between Northeast’s wonderful sit-down restaurants and that fast food chain, SiP prepares breakfast and lunch options fresh each day as a convenient, healthy option for those living, working, and passing through Northeast. We serve locally roasted, organic, fair-trade coffees and espresso in carefully crafted beverages.

We bake delicious from-scratch muffins, cookies, and bars. Our breakfast options include homemade quiche, breakfast sandwiches, egg burritos, yogurt parfaits, and hot oatmeal. We offer salads (green, pasta, and quinoa), unique and satisfying soups, and a variety of sandwiches that we make fresh each morning using SiPmade spreads, preservative-free deli meats, and locally-made artisan breads. (And several options for gluten free folks!)

SiP loves being a neighborhood gathering space. We encourage our customers to make themselves at home. Come hunker down and get to work, made a little easier with our free wireless internet (and caffeine, of course!). Or find a cozy spot on the couch and watch your kid play with our collection of toys. And if you need to stretch your legs, take a stroll to the new memorial park along the river, visible from our front door.

Sip Food

Our kitchen makes muffins, scones, bars, and cookies from scratch, in small batches, using our favorite recipes. You won’t find preservatives, artificial flavorings, or anything unpronounceable in our ingredients. We bake about 7 types of muffins every day, a couple of scones, several bars, and three kinds of cookies, and every now and then we take a new flavor for a spin. See some of the flavors we offer. Sip Coffee

We use organic fair-trade beans from our favorite local micro roaster. Our daily drip coffee offerings vary and have origins around the globe. We brew dark roast, medium roast, and decaf.

Our Italian Roast espresso has a rich crema, dark fruit flavors, and a long smoky finish. Best of all, it holds up well in a latté, because we’re a coffee shop, not a milk shop. Speaking of milk, if you don’t want cow milk, we offer soy and almond.

We brew cold press year round. Cold press is a coffee concentrate made by steeping coffee grounds in cold water for an extended period of time. What makes it great? The beans, the water, and the wait—we’ve got it down to a magical science. The results are high in caffeine, low in acid, and extremely smooth. It’s normally served iced but is delicious as an Americano.

Like a little sugar with your coffee? Try one of our Monin Flavors, chosen for their all natural, cane sugar approach. We have: Vanilla, Almond, Hazelnut, Coconut, Raspberry, Dark Chocolate, White Chocolate, and Caramel. And for sugar free fans, we have Vanilla, Hazelnut, and Chocolate. (We have a few other flavors, too, but a lime latté is not what you want!)
